Evaluating Dress Shirts

1.      Stitching - Single needle stitching – costly way of sewing, results in consistent, straight seams

2.      Buttons Mother of Pearl Buttons - Although there’s no real significant difference, some fashion connoisseurs actually prefer cross-stitched buttons

3.      Long Tails – long enough to come together between the legs

4.      Collar – evenly stitches along the edges

5.      Fit – made to measure – sufficient “blousiness” in the sleeve. Where it joins the cuff, fabric should be gathered into pleats, not tapered.

6.      Split-shoulder yoke – a vertical seam down the yoke on the back of the shirt

7.      Placket – a count of 14 stitches per inch on the shirt’s packet – the strip of fabric on which the buttons are sewn – indicates quality. Fewer than 11 stitches per inch signals lesser quality.

8.      High Quality Fabric – the higher the thread count, the better the quality…
